I continue today with the second of a two-part commemoration of the sixth anniversary of the death of Fidel on November 25, 2016. Today I am reposting my commentary of August 17, 2021, which focuses on Fidel’s appeal to the world of behalf of the colonized peoples in the period 1979 to 1983, as the world powers turned to neoliberalism. Public discourse in the United States proceeds with unawareness of the colonial foundations of the world-system, and what is more, foreign policy debates in the United States are driven by the limited issue of U.S. geostrategic interests.
